Youth Archery Programs
The Archery Division of the club is pleased to announce the introduction of two new programs that will be offered. Starting in January 2021 we will be offering an Archery Drop-In program and a JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) program.
Archery Drop-In Program – This program is designed to allow the general public to come into the club and try the sport of archery. This will allow a person who has a possible interest in archery to try it before expending a lot of money on the sport. All equipment will be provided along with proper coaching. The program will run on Wednesdays from 7-9 pm and will run all year long. We will ask for a small donation at the time that they sign up to help with the maintaining of the equipment – replacing vanes, nocks etc.
For this program we are asking any members that if they have any old archery equipment lying around collecting dust, that it be donated to the club. We are looking for anything – Arrows, Bows (preferred Recurves, but will take all) finger tabs, arm guards, nocks vanes, feathers etc. If you are interested in donating please contact Michael Ros – Contact information below.
We are also looking for volunteers to help instruct new comers to the sport. The goal is safety. We are not expecting to make pro shooters out of anyone but we want to give them a pleasant experience so that they will consider continuing in the sport.
USA Archery JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Program – This is an official program that is run under guidance from USA Archery. The program is designed to help young archers develop into future competitive shooters. As they progress through the program and their scores increase, they will in turn earn achievements or pins. There are certain requirements that have to be obtained for each pin awarded. This program is led by a USA Archery certified coach and assistant coaches that are also SafeSport certified. This program will run on Saturdays from 9-11 am year round. There is an adult version to this program that can also be done alongside if the demand is high enough.
One thing to note is that any persons helping out with the JOAD program will have to have a USA Archery background check and be SafeSport certified, plus be at least a Level 1 instructor. This is a regulation handed down by USA Archery and is designed to help keep our children safe. Any interest in becoming a Level 1 or Level 2 instructor, please contact Michael Ros.
These programs will have a domino effect on the club and on archery itself. As we bring in new people to the club to participate in these programs, some will continue on to participate in archery in a more active role plus we will be able to show what Capital Area Sportsmens League has to offer and will probably gain some new members.
If you want to donate any equipment, donate time, or have any questions please contact Michael Ros at bowprocoach@ctemplar.com.
